It was established under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956, and was founded in 1984 as a self-financing institution called the Vellore Engineering College. The Union Ministry of Human Resources Development conferred University status on Vellore Engineering College in 2001. The University is headed by its founder and Chancellor, Dr. G. Viswanathan, a former Parliamentarian and Minister in the Tamil Nadu Government. In recognition of his service to India in offering world class education, he was conferred an honorary doctorate by the West Virginia University, USA. Sankar Viswanathan, Sekar Viswanathan and G.V. Selvam are the Vice-Presidents; Dr. Anand A. Samuel is the Vice-Chancellor and Dr. S. Narayanan is the Pro-Vice-Chancellor.

VIT University or VIT, formerly called Vellore Engineering College, is a private university in Tamil Nadu, India. It is among one of the best private engineering colleges in the country with rankings among top 20 and many dream companies coming for placement season. But the placement is only for CSE students where the average is 5 lakh with highest being 20lakh, so that means most students get packages below 5lakh, which is way below most colleges with similar accreditions. Exams and class tests(includes quizzes,assignments) are held on a continuos basis.The number of tests and exams are very huge for a student per semester.While you are overcoming all these obstacles,it is a learning experience for your personal growth and mentality.There are lots of clubs and student chapters which deals with your studies,extracurricular activities,animation,sports,dance,spreading awareness about health issues etc.

admission procedure in VIT depends on the stream that you want to join into. Admissions to B.Tech. Programmes are done through their entrance exam called VITEEE, followed by a counselling for students who scored ranks upto 1,50,000.

Admission to VIT is conducted on a merit basis through it’s own online entrance exam, called the Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) and through management quota also. Nearly 2,00,000 students appear for the entrance test every year. At present there are total 4917 seats available for the candidates in VIT University.

VITEEE assessment will be on the web and 2 hours 30 minutes in length with every one of different decision questions.
