WHAT ABOUT BAMS?

Admission is done on the basis of NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test). This exam is now compulsory for admission into many medical courses, including BAMS.

After scores are obtained in the NEET, centralized counseling takes place which decides your place in a college based on your performance. Colleges may take personal interview round afterward to further screen the students.

As discussed above, ayurvedic colleges take admission on the basis of the NEET exam, followed by the counseling process.
It is considered a common entrance exam in courses such as MBBA, BDS, including BAMS. It is now a compulsory exam to secure admission in recognized colleges and institutes of the medical field. After centralized counseling, admission is provided to students based on the obtained scores.

NEET assessment involves 3 segments: Physics, Biology, and Chemistry. The test includes 180 inquiries, in which for each right answer you will be relegated with 4 imprints while for each wrong answer 1mark will be deducted. It is an MCQ based paper.

BAMS course duration of 5 years and 6 months consists of syllabus including classroom training, practical training, workshops, conferences, etc., and 1 year of mandate internship in the fifth year. Sanskrit is taught throughout the course for better subject understanding.

The syllabus is made in such a way that has 3 Professionals of 1.5 years each, consisting of subjects such as:

• Ayurvedic Philosophy
• History of Ayurveda
• Toxicology
• Anatomy
• Physiology
• General Surgery and para surgical techniques
• Panchkarma, and others.

Successful graduates of the course are hired in both government and private Ayurveda clinics for positions such as Ayurvedic Drug Specialist or may pursue private practice. Areas of employment for such professionals include the healthcare community, life sciences industry, pharma industry, etc.

Such graduates are hired in capacities such as Medical Representative, Ayurvedic Doctor, Sales Representative, Area Sales Executive/Manager, Assistant Claims Manager, Pharmacist, Jr. Clinical Trial Coordinator, etc.

Today, there are now numerous opportunities in the Ayurveda field. From becoming a doctor, or entering the research industry or making your career in the business aspect as a Sales representative or Business development executive, there are many other options as well.

In India, there are various different practices and traditions of Ayurvedic practices like Panchbhautik Chikitsa, Nadi Pariksha, Dhatu Chikitsa, etc. BAMS students can practice such traditions in their careers.

Students can also add value to their studies and knowledge by combining therapies such as Panchakarma, Yoga, Ayurvedic dietetics, Counseling, Physiotherapy, among others.

In terms of Higher Education, students have the opportunities to go for a master’s course in a field such as clinical research, public health, or relevant graduate diplomas.
